As pageant moms, we may tend to get a little over-zealous during the craziness of pageant week or during the weeks leading up to it. One thing to remember and instill in your daughter is that it is not about the crown. Its about being the best possible version of yourself, setting goals and working to achieve them, and making life-long memories. Then, if you happen to get a sparking crown in the process, it's like icing on the cake!

And if you hold more than one title, these rules are just as important.  Here are my tips on proper crown and sash wear: When and how to wear them. 1. Community Service - Wear your sash or no sash at all. No crown.  Since the focus should be on the people or cause you're serving, a crown is not necessary. Once you've received your invitation in the mail, questions will start flying off the top of your head. What's good to wear? What will be expected of her? How do I make sure she gets in? The first thing I can tell you is...relax! It's super simple and fun! Here are 5 tips to be sure you're not stressed and have fun at a National American Miss open call: 1. Arrive Early! It's stated in the confirmation e-mail you received, but I have seen so many times where people arrive what they think is 'on time' or even worse, late.  Give yourself 30 minutes prior to start time.  When you arrive, there will be a check in station and your daughter will get a sign with her name on it. But the ease of the competition can sometimes cause a contestant to slide down a slope of performing just....eh...while the top scorers really stand out and win. Here are strategies casual wear modeling winners use. Routine . You've got approximately 30 seconds on stage, which doesn't seem like a lot, but you can pack a powerful routine in that amount of time. Don't waste it by simply walking back and forth from one end of the stage to the other. Insert pauses, turns, shifts, twirls, facials, and action into the walk. Create an actual routine, just like you would a dance. Practice it over and over to uptempo music.
