The Power of Vision Boards in Pageantry

It's the start of a new year!  This is the time when people resolve to make this year better than the last. For many, lists of goals, tasks, or objectives are created in hopes of accomplishing them within the next 365 days.  Pageant girls everywhere are listing that big title as top priority.

With hard work and dedication, many of these pageant goals will be accomplished.  However, some crown-chasers will unfortunately fail to even come close to their dream with little reason as to why.

As a mom, educator, and coach, I tirelessly encourage young people to set goals.  However, in pageantry, I believe the extra step of creating a vision board will catapult dreams into reality.  Here are the reasons why a vision board should be a priority to-do item in any pageant girl's journey.

I once had a client (fairly new to pageantry) who had never heard of a vision board.  The first thing I required her to do before we proceeded with coaching sessions was to create a vision board. I told her to include images that represented what she wanted to accomplish in the next pageant.  She also included images related to other areas of her life, like future career aspirations and others.  A couple of weeks passed and the vision board was final, complete with an image of a 'crowning moment' photo.  I told my pageant newbie to hang her creation in a prominent place--somewhere she would be able to see it every day, and she did.

This crucial step created a daily visual reminder of the goals desired. You see, the way your brain works, is that it responds to visual stimulation.  This is super important in goal-getting, because the images your brain intakes evoke emotion, which will then fuel the action steps necessary to carry out the goal.  This article about vision boarding by Jack Canfield explains:
"Because your mind responds strongly to visual stimulation-by representing your goals with pictures and images-you will actually strengthen and stimulate your emotions...  and your emotions are the vibrational energy that activates the Law of Attraction. "
Vision boarding enables mental toughness (staying positive, believing in yourself) and ignites the dream. I recommend any girl active in pageantry to set yearly goals and to create a vision board based on those.  Imagine the incredible sense of accomplishment and pride once that crowning moment has finally arrived as you look back at that collage of images!

That summer, my client won her first big title.

She made a video of reflection and you can see her vision board behind her:

So what are you waiting for?  Dreams don't just come true by magic.  It all starts with a vision!  Can you envision?

Envision your reign.
