Whether you have a local, state, or national title the "unspoken rules" of wearing your crown and sash are the same no matter which pageant system you represent. And if you hold more than one title, these rules are just as important. Here are my tips on proper crown and sash wear: When and how to wear them.
1. Community Service - Wear your sash or no sash at all. No crown. Since the focus should be on the people or cause you're serving, a crown is not necessary. It could even take attention away from the cause. Sometimes it's good to bring the sash along with you for photo opportunities before or after the event but leave it off while you're actually serving. You could wear a jacket or t-shirt with your title on it as an alternative. It's always a good idea to check with the event organizer on what they deem appropriate.

2. A gala, fashion show, awards ceremony or red carpet event - Wear your crown and sash. It's time to shine and the crown is fitting for the occasion.

3. A pageant that is different than the one you represent. Wear the sash only, no crown. Also, if you are a former title holder of the same system as the pageant you are attending, wear only your sash. Let the new title holder(s) shine in their glory!
4. A photoshoot - Go for it all! Just be mindful that you will only be able to use those pics during your reign and after that, they are kind of obsolete. So be sure to get plenty of photos with and without your crown and sash.

5. Representing more than one title. Choose one! Don't wear more than one crown/sash to an event, or try to swap them out. It seems ingenuous to the pageant systems and could make you look like a "crown chaser".
6. Parade - Wear your crown and sash together. It's your time to shine! Don't forget that princess wave.

7. Meetings with community leaders, service men and women, or politicians- Wear your crown and sash and take lots of pictures! Your photo could end up in the newspaper and people need to know who you represent. You could also use the prints to create thank you cards and send to them following your meeting.

So whether you are representing your town or your country, know how to properly outfit yourself in your crown and sash.
